DOGGIE DIABETES

If your dog is overweight, middle-aged, or a high fat diet that he or she may be at risk of diabetes in dogs. Canine diabetes is a disease caused by the inability of their pets to process or make enough insulin. Birth defects, illness, certain prescription drugs, or disease can cause other forms of diabetes mellitus, as diabetes insipidus and nephrogenic diabetes insipidus.

Other factors that determine the potential risk of your dog include race as mixed breed dogs have been found to be more often likely to develop diabetes canine purebred dogs. Castrated male dogs and also have a greater risk than intact males. If your dog suffers from Cushing's disease, inflammation of the pancreas or a small bowl, or had long-term use of steroids that he or she may be at increased risk of developing diabetes.

Dogs with diabetes may experience excessive urination and water consumption, unexplained or unhealthy weight loss and increased appetite. He or she may also develop cataracts, is lethargic, weak, breathless, and otherwise to exercise intolerance, or recurrent infections. If your dog is at risk of diabetes or has developed any symptoms of diabetes should immediately take him to the vet for diagnosis.
